And we did!
Our July tasting saw us go global with this fine selection of drams:
- Ireland / USA – Green Spot Château Montelena (46% ABV)
- Australia – Morris Australian Single Malt Whisky Muscat Barrel Finish (46% ABV)
- India – Paul John Classic Select Cask (55.2% ABV)
- France – Bellevoye Rouge (43% ABV)
- USA – Belmont Farm American Single Malt (43% ABV)
- Sweden – MackMyra Stjärnrök (46.1% ABV)
Huge thanks to Ben from the Spirit Specialist for co-presenting (with slides!). The dram of the night was the Ireland / USA co-production:
“A delicious edition of Green Spot Irish single pot still whiskey which has been finished in casks that previously held Zinfandel wine from Chateau Montelena in Napa Valley, California”
However, the Belmont Farm scored highly and had a very interesting production backstory involving Chuck from the TV Show ‘Moonshiners’. MackMyra was also loved but whilst there wasn’t a huge appreciation for it, everyone agreed the Bellevoye copywriter had achieved new heights of over-the-top, flowery hyperbole. Selected extracts below:
The deep amber color prepares for more power than the firstborn. And the bouquet does not deceive.
Bellevoye bears the name of a road, the least travelled by, a path that one barely sees and that carries the promise of dawn, a destination shaped like a dream.
Jean and Alexandre designed this dream, placing their faith at the very heart of it, faith in the strength of their culture and country, France.
As is fast becoming the York Whisky Club tradition, there was a giveaway and Kate receiving a ‘New Kids on the Loch’ Summer 2022 tasting set, donated by Ben from the Spirit Specialist.
